I’ve got to get a handle on my migraines. Got laid out by another one today. Well, I felt it starting last night when I was trying to get to sleep. I was hoping sleep would take care of it and I’d be able to go to another day of orientation. I was wrong. It’s better now. I’m at about 85%, but typing this is a little painful. Why are you on the computer? You ask. It’s like the idea of hitting yourself with a brick, it feels so good when you stop.

I need to see a doctor at some point about these. The thing is, unless they suddenly get REALLY unmanageable, I know everything I have to do to get over it. It’s one of the few blessings of growing up with a mother that suffers from them. Remedy: Advil, cold room, blinds drawn/sleep mask, ear plugs, and spend at least 12 hours in bed. Now, migraine drugs have the ability to drop that time down to 2 hours or less, but I don’t like them. I mean, a migraine is torture, but the drugs make me feel off. I can sleep and or muscle through it. I’m tough. I should probably still check with a doctor.

Here’s something… So, Kanye last night, right? I love it when people with cooler heads look at things. I get too worked up about stuff sometimes. Reason #28 why The Reasonably Prudent Law Student is my idol:

Anyway. I’m achy and I feel like crap, but I still feel so much better than I did a few hours ago. I don’t want to push it, but there’s a bunch of stuff that I need to get done. I’m gonna finish cleaning the house today if I can. The bedroom/office needs reorganizing and the bathroom needs a good scrub-down. I took care of the kitchen yesterday, but I do need to run the dishwasher. The living room is slowly but surely coming together. I also need to make a list of everything that I need to get done this week (to include mostly definitely neuter paperwork for Sid, thank you notes, stamps and bill paying). I also might try to go to the grocery store tonight and see what I can find in the way of gelatin-free jello. I’ve got a potluck/barbeque to go to on Saturday and I’m thinking of doing jello art for it.

What’s jello art, you ask? Well, let’s just say that I’m a big fan of playing with colors and concepts and waiting HOURS for things to set. I’ll refer to the flavors as colors because you can swap out different ones according to taste like strawberry and cherry or orange and peach sometimes. So, when I say “orange” I mean the color family not necessarily the fruit flavor. I have made so far: Stoplight Jello (Red, Orange Green layered), Over the Rainbow Jello (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple layered and topped with whipped cream), and Sunset Boulevard Jello (Blue, Red, Orange, Yellow layered with a plastic man floating in the blue layer on the top – I think those were the colors I used… it was quite awhile ago. Just think sunset colors if you’d like to recreate). I made a few others for Weldon’s mom’s birthday one year. They weren’t particularly remarkable. I also did cupcakes for that one that were more notable. Oh. I did APO Jello. It was kind of a flop because when you layer blue and orange/amber… the orange/amber layers are too hard to see because the blue is so dark. It was kind of a fail. My container for it was a fail too. You need to use a clear bowl with a mouth that’s wider than the base. Pitchers and jars do not work well at all. Presentation-wise, they’re interesting, but jello is so sticky sometimes that you really have to take into account the ease of spooning. I learned that the hard way.

ANYWAY. I’m looking to do UNCSA Jello this year. I’ll either layer blue, green and purple in a clear bowl or maybe try to get fancier… Fancier, you ask? Layering jello is hard enough (try it, see if you don’t get really frustrated – it’s all about patience), how are you planning on getting fancier? I’m honestly considering doing a special mold of the seal:

Craziness. I have to figure out the best way to fit the pieces together. That might entail cutting or molds… Lord knows. I just have to buckle down and start it because it’s going to be an adventure. I figure this is a good way to learn how to make custom molds or whether or not side-by-side jello pouring is going to work. I know vertical layering works, so let’s find out about horizontal.

Anyway.

I was watching Conan, right? Well, I don’t care much about Kate Beckinsale (not that I don’t like her, I’ve just never seen her in anything that wows me), in fact, I’m mildly apathetic. However, that opinion changed because of her appearance on Conan for 2 reasons:
1. Her relationship with her husband cracks me up. Apparently she plays all kinds of practical jokes to scare the crap out of him. Love. It.
2. Her nails looked AMAZING. They were super-shiny metallic (they looked silver to me, but I learned later they were probably gold.) I’m fairly certain they were Minx Nails.

I have recently been spending a fair amount of time on my nails to thwart the dreaded and gross habit of biting them. THEREFORE, I have also been reading some nail care/polish blogs, particularly AllLacqueredUp. Now, on this blog, she wrote a post about Katy Perry’s fabulous flower-print Minx job. That in turn led me to her other posts on the topic. Here’s what you need to know if you’re interested:

Then they started to follow me. Usually I don’t go for companies following me, but I thought, it wasn’t a “Follow Friday” sort of thing, so I followed them in return.

Here’s where it shifts from my recent nail obsession to losing it on Jimmy Fallon (as much as one can do so to someone they’ve never actually met and via Twitter of all things) and then those two meeting again…

Jimmy Fallon had Elijah Wood on. Mr. Wood just so happens to be excellent on these late night shows so I stayed up. Jimmy “I’m Not Actually Funny” Fallon also did his “Robert is Bothered” segment, which I must admit, I do find pretty entertaining. So, bonus. But THEN, his next guest is in the most recent Tyler Perry movie and Fallon raves about what a HUGE Tyler Perry fan he is. That did it. I flipped my shit (and not in a good way). Tyler Perry is the worst thing to happen to theatre, film and television since in the invention of cork and Disney’s Song of the South. Tyler Perry is HEINOUS. He maintains the absolute worst of modern racial and gender stereotypes.

So.
